About Our Programs

Incoming freshmen and transfer students are eligible to join the California Promise during the fall term by invitation only.

Yes. You can change your option within your declared major and still remain in the California Promise program.

You can add a minor and still be eligible for the Graduation Pledge program. You should declare it as soon as possible within your four-year or two-year plan, and you must complete it by the end of your plan.

You can't double major in the California Promise program.

You can only apply to the California Promise program during your first term at Cal Poly Pomona.

If you are not eligible for the California Promise program, you can still graduate in two or four years. Your academic advisor can help you strategize a plan. You can also visit Student Success Central to find academic and advising resources, support directories, self-services and more that will help you stay on track to graduation. You should also plan to take 30 semester units per year to stay on track to graduate. Visit the Take 30 website to learn more about the benefits.

During your first term, you must enroll in and maintain 15 units at Cal Poly Pomona. To maintain eligibility in the program, you must successfully complete 30 semester units toward your degree by the end of summer term every year.

  • For first-time freshmen:
    • In the first year, a student’s AP and transfer credit can be applied to their 30-unit total as long as they enroll in 15 units their first term.
    • In subsequent years, students may consider taking transfer credit at a community college during the summer to apply to their 30 units each academic year.
  • For transfer students:
    • Students may consider taking transfer credit at a community college during the summer to apply to their 30 units each academic year.

Your first advising session will be at Orientation. After you are accepted to a program, your academic advisor will help you plan your classes and stay on track to graduation.

You will have already registered for your first courses at Orientation by the California Promise application deadline. Once you're in the program, your first term of priority registration will be the following spring semester.

You can apply anytime before the deadline. We recommend that you attend your Orientation date before you begin the application process so you know what courses you are taking in fall.

There is no difference – all programs that offer priority registration have the same priority registration dates. However, each program has specific eligibility requirements that may impact your priority registration privilege if you do not meet them. As long as you maintain eligibility in the California Promise, you will receive priority registration.

We do not have a limit on how many students can apply for and stay in the program.

Receiving less than a C- letter grade or a No Credit will make you ineligible for the program. There is no grace or probation period.
